Would you be surprised to learn there are almost one-million hail damage claims made every year in the US?

Texas, Colorado, and other midwestern states see the most hail damage from severe weather. However, hailstorms can and do occur throughout the year in all 50 states.

Have you had the misfortune of getting stuck in a hailstorm? Are you wondering how much it’s going to cost to fix hail damage and restore your car’s condition?

In this post, we’ll take a look at the average costs of auto hail damage repair across the country. We’ll also provide some tips for finding the best hail damage repair near you. Read on!

Auto Hail Damage Repair: Factors to Consider

Before we talk dollars and cents, it’s important to understand the different factors that go into repair costs. These include:

  • The severity of the hail damage
  • The number and size of the dents
  • The areas of your car that were damaged
  • The type of auto insurance coverage you have
  • Your ability to negotiate with your insurance company

The biggest factor in what you’ll pay out of pocket is your deductible. For example, your insurance policy may come with a $250 deductible, a $2,500 deductible, or anywhere in between. The deductible is the amount of money that you will pay before your insurance kicks in and covers the rest.

In terms of national averages, auto shops charge anywhere from:

  • $30-$45 to remove a small dent
  • $40-$55 to remove a medium-sized dent
  • $70-$80 to remove a large dent
  • $150-$300 to replace a windshield

Of course, the pricing also varies greatly by locale. If you live in Texas and take your car to VIVID Auto Body Shop, you’ll probably spend less than you would if you live in Manhattan or Silicon Valley.

However, the nationwide average for auto hail damage repair is around $2,500.

Tips for Repairing a Car With Hail Damage

After the storm passes and you notice damage to your car, document it right away. Use your smartphone or camera to take pictures and videos of all damaged areas, including the windshield, bumpers, and windows.

Next, contact your insurance company ASAP. If a big storm moved through your area, you can be sure that lots of your neighbors will be calling to file claims too. The sooner you report the damage, the sooner you can get your car repaired.

If you’re not carrying comprehensive insurance (full coverage), your provider may not cover any of the costs of hail damage repair. In that case, your best bet is to visit several different repair shops in your area and collect estimates. Keep in mind that the best shop will use paintless dent removal (DPR) to fix the damage.

The Cost of Hail Damage: Now You Know

The price you’ll pay for auto hail damage repair depends on a number of different factors. The type of auto insurance you carry and the amount of hail damage are the two biggest aspects of the final cost.
