Emission test is conducted to check the level of pollution or smoke emitted by a particular vehicle. As per the Central Motor Vehicles Act 1989, a vehicle can be driven on public roads in India only if it has a valid PUC (Pollution under Control) Certificate. To procure a PUC certificate, the vehicle must first clear the emission test.

This test is a step towards keeping the environment pollution free as much as possible. The harmful smoke emitted from the vehicle is hazardous and can harm the nature adversely. Thus an emission test will make sure the vehicle’s that pass the test have the permission to drive on public roads.

How to obtain a PUC?

PUC is only given to two-wheelers that pass the emission test. Apart from petrol pumps, there are many independent test centers available that conduct emission tests. These tests measure the amount of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide released per ppm and check if the vehicle is exceeding the permissible amount.

Documents a bike owner needs to carry

Whether it’s a long bike trip or a short distance commute you always need to carry a set of important   documents with you. All these documents are mandatory and you need to carry it at all times when on the road. If you ever encounter a police check and you miss any of these documents you will be fined for the same. • Vehicle purchase document

When purchasing a bike the dealer provides you with all the documents which is the proof that you are the owner of your bike. Details like your engine chassis number, vehicle ID and other vital details of the vehicle would be mentioned on the documents. It can save you in case of an unfortunate event or crimes like bike theft, making these documents even more important to carry around.

• Driver’s License

You need a driver’s license to be able to drive on the roads. It’s a proof provided by the RTO officer of that jurisdiction to you authorizing that you are eligible and legally permitted to drive a vehicle.

• Registration Certificate

Also known as RC, It is a mandatory document that proves that the vehicle has been registered with the RTO of that jurisdiction.

• Two- wheeler Insurance Policy

Under the law of Motor Vehicle Act of 1988 it is mandatory to carry your two-wheeler insurance document with you. • PUC Certificate

A lot of riders tend to neglect the PUC certificate. But this certificate is mandatory as it is a proof that the carbon emissions emitted out of your two-wheeler is under control and does not potentially pollute or harm the environment. The PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate comprises of the certificate number, date of testing, validity, vehicle registration number, emission test reading and results, etc.
